Sizakala Wellness Counsellors & HM PITJE Foundation

Due to the need to address the various plights that plague our nation, we as Sizakala Wellness Counsellors have collaborated with HM PITJE Foundation to address the various challenges of the South African education system.  

 

It is noted that many learners lack a proper foundation of knowledge such as basic numeracy and literacy (De Villiers, 1997). it is believed that poor work ethic, poor study habits, misconduct and developmental disorders, also constitute as learning barriers (Mashau, 2000). Due to these concerns and challenges Sizakala Wellness Counsellors aims to assess these challenges from the perspective of teachers, students and caregivers, by conducting a Needs Assessment Project in Soshanguve, Pretoria, that will confirm or expose more of these challenges. 

Through this study we aim to learn more about what the schools actually needs, to get a more honest and objective description of needs than people might say publicly and to become aware of possible needs that we never saw as particularly important or did not know existed. In addition, we seek to recognize gaps in our educational system that could help the children excel in their studies, develop measures to deal with the various issues which impact their education, plus increase their chances towards a better future with less push back.
